European Sustainable Development Week

The European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) is a European initiative aimed at stimulating and highlighting as many activities, projects and events that contribute to the realisation and promotion of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, as possible.

With its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Agenda 2030, adopted in 2015 by the United Nations, identifies the key challenges that require urgent actions by all levels and actors of our societies. The ESDW contributes to this transformative, ambitious and universal agenda, by encouraging activities on the terrain that are related to or support these SDGs. Hereby, the ESDW tries to increase awareness of the Agenda 2030 in the whole of Europe and encourage stakeholders in all territories to actively contribute to sustainable development, in particularly for the SDGs.

This year, the ESDW will take place from the 18th of September to and including the 8th of October 2024. The registrations for the event are now opened and will be closed after the 8th of October!

Which are the initiatives considered? Who can partake?

To foster participation and diversity, the registrations are open to everyone: governmental organisations, research centres, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, associations, museums, foundations, enterprises, but also all civilians. The principle selection criterion for participation in the ESDW is the focus, by the project/initiative, on at least one of the three dimensions of sustainable development (environment-related, social or economic), while not having an exclusively profit-seeking motive. This can thus vary from a congress to an exhibition, market organisation, movie screening, association activity, sustainable company initiative or education project (non-exhaustive list).

Do you want to register your initiative?

To do this, enrol your initiative on this Belgian platform by checking of the "Initiative organised in the framework of the European Sustainable Development Week” box. You can find more information on the registration procedure by clicking this link. Your activity will also be accessible on the ESDW-website, where all initiatives registered in Europe during the mentioned period are made visible. Last year, more than 5.000 actions in 28 countries were counted!

Participate in this event. Register your sustainable development project and become part of this European initiative!
